From Troop Librarian: J. Reed

2005 Troop 174 Merit Badge Library Policy for Summer Camp

  • The troop librarian has enough merit badge books of each specified merit badge subject to distribute to all scouts during camp. No scout will be required to purchase merit badge books, each book for each subject will be supplied by the troop.
  • The merit badge books for the troop will be distributed at 3:00PM on Sunday July 3, 2005 at the Kahagon campsite after the scouts have completed their swim test.
  • The merit badge books now have a new numbering and cataloguing system.  The books have identification numbers on stickers in the upper right hand corner of the inside cover and “TROOP 174” written on the upper left hand corner.  (Special Note: The higher numbered books are the most recent editions available in the library.  Also the newer books are in better condition).
  • Books will be loaned to scouts on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All books will be signed out by the scout when they are removed from the library.
  • All books will be the responsibility of the scout until they are returned.  Scouts are responsible for each merit badge book(s) that they sign out.  If books are exchanged amongst scouts, the individual scout who originally signed out the book is still responsible for the book.
  • All books will be due, (returned to the Librarian), by the week before the October Court of Honor.  Any scout who does not turn in his merit badge book(s) will not receive the merit badge.  He will also be responsible for the cost of the book and that cost will be deducted from his escrow account ($3.25 per book).  Most importantly, failure to return merit badge books will also delay rank advancement!
  • If books are lost, or returned in poor condition, the scout will be responsible for their replacement.
